  • Transcendental Nominalism

Transcendental can be described as being related to a spiritual or non physical realm. Nominalism is the doctrine that universals or general ideas are mere names without any corresponding reality.Ian Hacking stated that "Kuhn is not to be read as an idealist who denies that there is a reality existing independently of human thought. Rather, Kuhn denies that the kinds to which individuals things belong have any existence prior to thought." (Pg 9)
  • The concept of a paradigm

    The concept of a paradigm
Thomas Kuhn is well known for the thesis in 'The structure of scientific revolution' known today as the paradigm shift. This is described as a fundamental change in the basic concept and experimental practices of a scientific discipline. Paradigm shifts appears when the dominant paradigm under which normal science operates is rendered incompatible with new phenomena.

Normal science by Thomas Kuhn is described as to be "predicted on the assumption that the scientific community know what the world is like"(pg 5). Kuhn stated that "normal science often often surpress fundamental novelties because they are necessarily subversive of its basic commitments" (pg 5).
  • Incommensurability

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary "this is a concept in philosophy of science where scientific theories are commensurable if scientists can discuss them using a shared nomenclature that allows direct comparison of theorist determine which theory is more valid."
