Kuhn: Normal Science 1
Kuhn used the term “Normal Science” and defined it as the phase in which scientists are doing the work and research and work and thought to be solving the puzzle within an established pardigm. Kuh believed during this phase scientists are collecting data and information to suppor the theory with out ever trying to disprove this theory. Now Karl Popper of course had major issues with this as he believed once you find something that disproves a finding then the issue is dead and one must move on. -
Kuhn: Pardigm Shift 2
...once a theory has been disproven it is essentially a dead subject and one must start over. According to Kuhn he disagreed with this philosophy and from his point of view took the stance that when a theory has been disproven or the observations do not fit the theory or change it, it is a paradigm shift. Here is a small YouTube video of a visual representation on the pardigm shift. https://youtu.be/3cp6pEzx3uw -
Kuhn: Paradigm Shift 1
Thomas Kuhn was notable as one of the most important philosophers of science. He had may different theories and philosophies, perhaps one of his most important philosophies was his ideas on the “paradigm shift”. The paradigm shift keeps scientific paths from heading down one continuous path, it opens up new methods and theories allowing for a process that allows for a scientist to discover more. This of course goes against everything Karl Popper believed in. Popper used the theory that .. -
Kuhn: Incommensurability 1
Thomas Kuhn used the phrase incommensurability, he used this term during a pardigm shift where pardigms and their theories are so different they are not compatible. This is such a big change that it completely changes the language spoken about a theory and completely changes the way scientists attack their work within the paradigm shift. Kuhn continued to develope his definition of this over the years further refining this philosophy. This has been a very controversal change as some argue.... -
Kuhn: Incommensurability 2
He massssively changed his views or theories on it. Where some including Kuhn himself felt it was just small refinements to an already defined philosophy. Some philosophers believe that not all pardigm shifts are incommensurable and some progress can still be used to help define a theory or scientific process. Here is a video that helped me define this: https://youtu.be/euE7PP_RUfk -
Kuhn: Structure of Science 2
...to better and more clearly define his philosophies and theories to help scientists better understand his Structure of Science. He is a mind that is surely missed, and his impacts are still felt today. -
Kuhn: Structure of Science 1
Thomas Kuhn had a major impact of the world and within the scientific community with his Structure of Science theories and philosophies. Even today scientists and philosophers are trying to continue to develope his processes of the paradigm and their shifts, trying to further elaborate on his philosophy of normal science and revolutionary science. To say Kuhn had an impact on the philosophy of science is an understatement, to his very last day on this earth he strove to better....
