they stood still waiting for an attack for seven days before an attack. but while the franks were fending off the moors charles the hammer planed an attack behind enemy lines. this sent some troops on retreat causing others to think it was a general retreat.so while he was offguard the franks killed him discouraging the dark ages. -

Charles
charlemagne, or charles the great, was the king of the franks at this time. he was begining to defeat the saxons. In 782 he killed 4,500saxos because they wouldn't convert to christianity. In 804 the war finally ended with the franks succeful. He discouraged the dark ages. -
