    A group of indians entered the Whitman camp for what the whites thought was a peace treaty. But the indians had weapons consealed inside their clothing. When they got close to Marcus Whitman and his family the indians pulled out their weapons killed him and his family and took 54 as hostage, killed 14 incuding Marcus and Narcissa, of the 72 on the mission 4 lived.
