Fort Larmine Treaty
The Fort Laramie Treaty was when the government built a string of forts to protect settlers and miners. Its is in the state of Colorado near pikes peak. The officals asked each nation to keep a limited amount of space . If they followed that they would get money,domesticanimals,agicultural tools and other goods. In 1858 gold was discovered at Pikes Peak in Colorado. -

The comstock lode was when two propestctors struck gold in the Sierra Nevada. The word lode is a rich vein of gold or silver. Then comstock was the guys last name so thats how you got the comstock lode. When the Mexican miners took the 'danged blue stuff' to an expert in California he noticed it was sliver.By 1870s mibners discovered goold in the Black Hill of South Dakota. -

The Cattle Kingdom
The Cattle Kingdom was when the spanish and then the mexicans set up cattle ranches n the southwest. They grew into large herds of cattle. The cattle were known as Texas longhorns.The cattle roamed freely across the grassy plains of Texas. When the Civil War was over the demand formeat was high. They were perfect foe marketing becasue they needed little water they also required no winter feedings. -
Homestead Act
The Homstead act is when immigrant and easterners rushed to accept the offer of free land. Some of the people that wasntede free land they hid in the woods and wait till the horn sounded and jumped out of the woods.The farmers that moved out west were called sodbusters because they cut through the sod to the soil below. Also plain farmers made their houses out of sod . -

The consrtuction of the Transcontinental Railroad
The Transcontinental railroad began work in 1863.There were two railroad that are the Union Pacific which starts at Omaha, Nebraska. The other one was the central pacific which started in Sacramento, California. The two railroad met at Promotary Point, Utah. They had chinese immigrants come in and work long days. -
Exodusters Movement
Exodusters were African Americans. The group moved west after the end of recontruction. In 1879 a group of African Americans moved to Kansas. They called themselves Exodusters after Exodus, the book of the Bible. 40,000-70,000 exodusters moved to Kansas by early 1800's. -
Oklahoma Land Rush
The Oklahoma Land Rush to place in Oklahoma. The government forced thefarmers to sell there land. The Oklahome land rush and the Homestead act are similar because they both gave away free land.On the day of the land rush 100,00 land seekers lined up at the Oklahoma border. Some significants of this event are that they gave away free land becuase the government mad the farmers. -
Populist Party Formed
In 1892 a group of farmers and labor joined togethe to form a party. The Popoulist demanded that the governmnet help raise far prices and to regulate railroad rrrae at thefirst national convention. They also called for an income tax,an eight-hour work day and limits on immigration. They also demanded free silver which means they wanted al he silver mined in the west to be coined into money.the populists argue that increasing the money supply would cause infliation.
