Comstock Lode
The Comstock Lode was the first US discovery of silver located in Navada. When mining camps were started it was then the centure of wealth. After many people in California found out about this and in the United States many people became very happy. In spring of 1850 they then found gold. When people found out about the silver and gold they all moved to where they had found it at so they could look for some too. -

The Cattle Kingdom
Once the Civil War was over the beef that they needed increased. The Cattle Kingdom grew throughout just two decades after the war.They needed the cattle because they need their meet and they used them for shelter and also clothes. They dont need food or water so they can travel far. Once they made the heard bigger it was harder to make them move to where they were being taken because they would be grazing. -
Homestead Act
This act was made by Northern Republicans but congress blocked it. The law needed to be required to improve the land. Because of this act they were able to give away 270,000,000 acres of land to many different people. When you would get they land you needed to build a house and farm it for five years. After a while this act was then being abused. -

Construction of the Transcontinental Railroad
This railroad made it a lot easier to get from one side of the coast to the other. When building the railroad congress gave the workers some money and gave them some land. Everytime one mile of the track was completed they got 20 sections of land along a route. If they were in territories they would get 40 sections if in the territoy.
This was a cheaper way from getting from Omaha to San Francisco and it took less time. -
Battle of Little Bighorn
The Battle of Little Bighorn was fought on Montana territory. This was started because they found gold on Native American land. When they went to attack the native american village they went in the day when there was sun and wanted to fight in daylight and not at night. This was the last Native American victory before government stepped up with the military. -
Wounded Knee
They made a camp that was at Wounded Knee Creek. They went there the day before the battle. When the battle was over there were many people that were killed. When it first strated they were at a very close rang but the indian men were not even ready so most of them got shot right away. 20 soliders got the medal of honer after this event happened. -
Populist Party Formed
This was formed because the farmers welfare was suffered badly. It was formed in response to low agricultural prices in the South and the West. The members believed that the democratic and republican parties were controlled by bankers, land owners and wel-to-do people who were hostile to the needs of the small farmer. The party wanted a 8 hour working day. Also it wanted government control of railroads and telegraphs and telephones. -
Oklahoma Land Rush
This event 50,000 people lined up to get some free land. Many people who wanted to get some of the land would get to where they wanted a peice of land and hid until the gun shot went off then they would come out a get their land. People would be riding their horses and they would be shooting other people so they could get the land they wanted. There was only 2 million acres of land for the 50,000 people that showed up. When this happened the state then became very popular.
