Britain had blockaded the Americans coast, stopping American trade. After reinforcing their troops, Britain managed to close off all ports. The British closed the entire coast. -
Invaision of Canada
General william Hull had started to invade Canada but retreated. William had thought that he hadn't enough men. Britishgeneral, Isaac Brock had seen the apportunity. Isaac and his men suronded William and his men, forcing them to surrender. British had now captured more than 2'000 of America's soldiers. -
USS Constitution scores a victory
The USS Constitution had defeated the British ship "Guerriere" in a feirce battle. British artilery fire bounced off of the USS Constitution. This gave the USS Constitution the knickname "Old Ironsides" -
Battle of Lake Erie
Both sides of the battle knew the importance on controlling the lake. The battle took place in Put-In-Bay in the western part of the lake. The battle lasted for 3 hours. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
In the summer of 1813 Native Americans suffered defeat in southern America. Creek warriors had been attacking many southern settlements. Andrew Jackson had taken control of the forces in Georgia. By March of 1814, Jackson's men had defeated the Creeks. -
Washington D.C.Attacked and Burned
A British force was moving toward Washing ton D.C. When they got there, they burned many government buildings, including the White House. Americans were shocked to find out that the military could not protect Washigton. -
Writing the Star Spangled Banner
After a long filled night of fighting in Fort McHenry, Francis Key noticed that the flag was still waving of the fort. Francis wrote a poem about the night on the back of an envolope. He called it the Star Spangled Banner, and it soon became the national anthem. -
