President Madison Takes Office
Britain gave the Native Americans weapons and so America got mad at Britain. Americans resent the impeachment to American sailors by Britain. Madison took office in 1809. -
War Hawks Take Power
The honor of America was at stake. Americans felt a new sense of nationalism. Their supports are are called war hawks. -
Relations with Great Britain Worsens
The United States were told by the British that they are going to continue to impress sailors. Native American attackedthe frontier. Congress delcared war with Britain. -
Congress Declares War on Great Britain
Britain was still at war with Europe but wouldn't pay America to stop the war. Americans thought they could win. But Jefferson made America not be prepared for war. -
America is not Ready for War
Jefferson cut the military's strength.The navy only had 16 ships prepared. The army only had 7,000 men prepared. -
Britain Blockades American Ports
Britain put a blockade on the American coast on the 1st day of war. Britain had 135 ships blocking the American ports. By the end of war the American ports were closed by Britain. -
Invasion of Canada
The war hawks wanted to invade Canada when the war began. General William Hull and his troops invaded Canada from Detriot, then retreated. Britain took 2,000 American soldiers. -
USS Constitution Scores a Victory
The battle at sea was a major battle with a ship that is called Guerriere. Americans named the Constitution, Old Ironsides because bullets bounced off of the hull.The Americans thought the Constitution was made of iron. -
Battle of Lake Erie
On the West of Lake Erie there was a 3 hour battle in Put-In-Bay. The American flagship[ was in very rough shape. Oliver Hazard Perry changed to another ship so he could win. -
Battle of Horseshoe Bend
Creek warriors attacked South Americans property. In Georgia the commander was Andrew Jackson. The fighting was ended with a treaty that made Creeks give up millions of acres of land. -
Washington Attacked and Burned
When the British marched into Washington, Dolly Madison saved all the President's important papers. The White House was burned down but America won't help. 1931 the national athem became the Star Spangles Banner. -
Writing of the Star Spangled Banner
It was writin on the back of an envolpe. The Star Spangled Banner was based on what he saw that night. After awhile it was set to music and became our national anthem. -
Hartford Convention
At this meeting they decided that the New England States secede from the United States. A group of Federalists met in Hartford Connecticut. The Hartford Convention ended very fast because the war was over. -
Treaty of Ghent
On Christmas Eve of 1814they signerd a treaty for war. Everything returned to normal after the treaty was signed. The treaty was signed because Britain was sick of war by 1814. -
Battle of New Orleans
It was weeks before the United States heard about the treaty. Britain and America fought another battle before they heard of the treaty and it being signed. In 1815 General Andrew Jackson led them to a win of War.
