President Madison takes office
James Madison was a political theorist. He was elected President and he was considered the father of the Constitution. He was the fourth president of the United States of America. He was elected twice as President. As President he was in many major events such as War of 1812, star spangled banner, Treaty of Ghent, Battle of New Orleans, Hartford Convention and second bank of the US. -
War Hawks Take Power
The War Hawks of 1812 were about twenty Democratic Republicans who persuaded congress into declaring a war against Britain. The young members of the South-Western were voted into the house during mid term congressional electoins in 1810. They were united mostly because of the British impressment. These War Hawks had enough of the plans President Jefferson and Madison had, to go against the British so they (the War Hawks ) think the only thing to do now is declare war on them. -
Relations with Great Britain Worsen
Britain is not being the best to us because they have impressed American sailors. They are causing fights with trade partners, blockading our ports so we have no way of moving by water and then later the British had told the Americans that they would continue to impress american sailors. And relations with Great Briain got so bad we declared war. -
Congress Declaers War on Britain
To most Americans their honor was at stake so they had to be supportive of the War Hawks that were willing to fight against Great Britain. In the spring of 1812 the British told the Americans that they would continue impressing US sailors. Meanwhile Native Americans were creating new attacks on the frontier settlement. In June Congress declared war on Britain. -
America is not Ready for War
Jefferson cuts to the American army had greatlly hurt the American's chances of winning so they had to rethink their battle plans. The Navy had only 16 warships ready for action and had a very small army with only 7000 men or fewer. In the first few days of the war the British set up a blockade of American coast. By the end of August the war had ended and we had won. -
Britain Blockades American Ports
The British had Blockaded ports with a total of 135 warships and still reinforcing their troops. The British had blockaded the Gulf of Mexico and a big part of the Atlantic Ocean. The British were able to close all American ports by the end of the war. -
Invasion of Canada
Before the war even began the War Hawks were demading an invasion of Canada. In July of 1812, American troops attacked Canada from Detroit. The General captin of the US army was unsure about the number men they had do they retreated and were later surrounded by Isaac Brock. -
Second Battle of Saketts Harbor
British froces were transported through Lake Ontario and tried to capture the town of Sackets Harbor. This was not successful because of the regular Americans and the Military. So America was successful on this battle. -
Battle of Lake Erie
The battle was fought off the coast of Ohio. Nine ships of the United States Navy had defeated and captured six of the Great Britian Navy ships. This had made the Americans know that they had total control over the lake for the rest of the war. -
Battle of Thames
This battle had taken place in the areas near Chatham, Ontario in upper Canada. But this battle had ended up in a death for a Shawnee Cheif Tecumseh and destructions of the Native Americans which he had led. -
Batle of Horseshoe Bend
The battle of Horseshoe Bend was fought in central Alabama. The United State forces and the Indian allies under order of Andrew Jackson. Who had defeated the red sticks, under the order of Creek tribe who had opposed American expansion. -
Battle of Fort Oswego
The British Captain Yeo had embarked on a journey to land in the Oswego area. There was a storm coming up to the British ships and there was no way that they could get close enough to where they could support their land troops with guns. So the British ships had to withdraw for the night. So the next morning they had sent off 200 sailors to Oswego but the Americans had sent off 242 and so later in the battle while many people had died and got wounded the British had to withdraw. -
Washinton D.C Attacked and Burned
The major conflict with the United Kingdom of Britian and Ireland against the US. The British captain of the army had told their men to set fire to all public buildings. So while Washington was being occupied they burned all public buildings and finally burned down Washington. -
Attack on Baltimore and the Writting of the Star Spangled Banner
This battle was a land and sea fight. It was between the British and the Americans. The Americans were in the sea and then fought in the busy ports of Baltimore. The battle was so hard on the Americans this time more than ever so it had inspired Francis Key to write a poem and was later to be named the Star Spangled Banner. -
Battle of Plattsburgh
This was the final invasion of the northern states during the war of 1812. The British had then converged over to the lakeside of Plattsburgh. Which were defeated by American naval troops under order of Alexander Macomb. Which also had lead to the signing of the Treaty of Ghent. -
Hartford Convention
This convention was held in the US to discuss disagreements between the British and the US. They invited federalists and they held meetings because they were concerned about the ongoing War of 1812. Once the meetings were finished,and the agreements were settled and the war is coming to an end everyone went there seperate ways. -
Treaty of Ghent
This was a document that had ended the War of 1812. It was a peaceful treaty that greatly restored relations with US and Britian. This document was slow in communicating. It had taken two weeks for the document to go around. -
Battle of New Orleans
This was the final major battle of the War of 1812. American forces led by Andrew Jackson defeated the British army and prevented them from taking over New Orleans. The large territory along with the Louisiana Purchase is now in the hands of the United States of American.
