Congress Declares War On Britain
The brittish told the United states they would continute impressing the sailors. The war did not come at a good time for Britan. At the time war came, they were still in a battle with Europe. Britan did not want to follow Americas plan to avoid war. -
America Is Not Ready For War
They realized Jeffersons spending cuts effected the American Military. An they did not really have many people in there Army. They only had less than 7,000 men. And only 16 war ships ready for them. -
Britain Blockades American Ports
In the first days of the war the Brittish set up a Blockade of the American Coast. By 1814 the Brittish Navy had 135 warships blockading American ports. After they reinforced there troops they were able to close off all American ports by wars end. -

Andrew Jackson took command of American Forces in georgia. Jackson defeated the Creeks at the Battle of the Horseshoe Bend. The treaty that ended the fighting forced the Creeks to give up millions of acres of land. -

Britan had tired of war. Peace talks had began in Ghent Belgium. On Christmas Eve 1814, both sides signed the treaty of Ghent. Then the war ended. The treaty returned everything backt to the way it was before the war. -

News of the Treaty took several weeks to reach the United States. During that time two sides fought one last battle. General Andrew Jackson won a stunning victory over the Brittish at the battle of new orleans.
