This raid was the first known raid of the viking empire This is important because this shows how powerful the vikings were even in the early stages of their empire. French king pays ransom money.

The French king at the time pays Ancient Vikings to prevent vikings from sacking Paris. Paris would have been attacked and thousands of people would have died if the vikings attacked them.

Vikings Settle Iceland

Norse settlers traveled across the North Atlantic and the reason for this migration was there was not enough good land for crops. I imagined this voyage took many months but they would have stopped along many different small islands in the North Atlantic until reaching Canada.

Vikings settle in Normandy

The Vikings first started being seen in Normandy when their raids went deep into the Frankish empire. They were commanded by the leader Rollo. There are statues of Rollo in Normandy.

Erik the red discovers Greenland.

Erik the red was a viking had red hair and red beard and was very short tempered. Erik the red was exiled from Iceland just like his father for manslaughter. He found Greenland and came back to tell everyone wonderful this land was.
This event is one of the most significant because the Vikings settled in Green land and it was very important to the geography for them

The Vikings land in Canada

The first people to land in North America besides the native Americans. Lief Erickson led him along with many Norse people to North America and Erik the red was the father of Lief Erickson.
This is very important beacuse it was the first time anyone discovered North America and it was before western settlers came.

The battle of Wachet

The vikings attacked and burnt the village of Wachet. The English leader at the time Streonwold called upon the surrounding lands for help and the vikings still won and killed Streonwold. Thousands of lives were taken.
This event is very important because it shows the strength of the Vikings and how they can take on many armies.

Vikings are paid to leave

Greenland and Iceland are converted to Christianity by Vikings and the reason why is Iceland was visited by many missionaries from England and many of these missionaries ideas came from the Irish. Since many vikings from Iceland were moving over to Greenland so that's why its widespread.
The reason why this is very important is because religion is a big part of many civilizations.

Lief Erickson reaches American coast on 1001 A.D. The Vikings were the first people to reach America besides the native Americans already living there. Columbus didn't reach the New land until 1492 almost 500 years later.
This is very important to the world because many people think it was Columbus who found america when it was the Vikings.

Swein Forkbeard becomes first Viking King of England.

Swein Forkbeard becomes first Viking King of England. Vikings had been raiding England for years and Danish King Forkbeard wanted to conquer the whole country. His rein was short lived with Forkbeard only being king for five weeks and two more years of fighting took place to regain viking rule and his son took over and reigned for 19 years.
This is so important because the Vikings were not that established as a whole but they were able to conquer a powerful place at that time.

Battle of Clontarf

The battle of Clontarf was one of the last battles involving the vikings. The battle took place near Dublin on the east coast of Ireland. The battle was between the Brian Boru king of Ireland and his army against Norse-Irish viking alliance and the Vikings won.
This battle is so important to Viking history because it is one of the last battles before the end of the Viking age and the empire or life of the vikings history will live on for a long time.

Vikings found the city off Oslo In Norway and establish a trade center.

In 1050 A.D. vikings of the middle ages vikings founded the city of Oslo in Norway and established a major trading center. Today this is a major city in Norway and the viking heritage is still very present. There is museum that has a viking ship that was found with two women bodies in it and this museum is a tourist destination.
This is very important because if the Vikings did not settle in this area there would not be a city with rich viking history and artifacts.

The end of the Viking Age
