Troops Land

Mar 8, 1965

The first US troops land in Vietnam. Abut 3,500 marines arrive in Da Nang.

Tet Offensive

Jan 30, 1968

About 100 cities and towns in South Vietnam are attacked by the Viet Cong and North Vietnam. About 1,000 Viet cong soldiers invade the city of Saigon and sieze a part of the US embassy located in Saigon. They loose a total of over 10,000 men.

My Lai Massacre

Mar 16, 1968

US soldiers part of Charlie Company, 1st Battallion, 20th Infantry kill between 200 and 500 people in the village of My Lai.

Troops

Dec 1, 1968

The total number of soldiers deployed in Vietnam reaches about 540,000.

Going Home

Mar 29, 1973

The last of the troops deployed in Vietnam withdraw and finally go home.

Assault

Mar 1, 1975

North Vietnam attacks South Vietnam.

Surrender

South Vietnam surrenders to Vietnamese communists from the north.
