The Begining of conflict
The Vietnam war started with the Vietnamese attacking the french, so that they could get their independance in August of 1945. The only reason the U.S.joined this war was to keep communism from spreading. -
Eisenhower cites the Domino theory
April 7, 1954 eisenhower held a speach about hi idea callen the domino theory: it was that is one country falls to communism then neighboring countries would surly fall also. -
Indochina war
United States kept France in the war for 8 years. The French surrendered after 56 days in Dienbienphu on september 2, 1954. When the french surrendered they pulled out of the war. so they left the U.S. and S.V. hanging. -

deim was the governor of south vietnam. He ruled with an iron fist. anyone who challenged him was put to death or given jail time. the United States said that they would support him in 1959. -
vietcong formed
the vietcong were formed in the 1960's.the vietcong grew in in strength because of deims iron fist in S.V. the vietcong were supplied by the N.V. to do hit and run attacks on S.V. and they used guerilla fighting with the U.S. -
Agent Orange
Agent orange was made in 1962. it is a chemical weapon. it would kill all vegitation that it touched, if it also got on the vietnamese it would cause cancer or give the vietnamese's children birth defecta. -
Gulf of tonkin
in August of 1964 N.V. submarines sank U.S. destroyers. Some thought that it was made up to make the United States come into the war more. -
Operation Rolling Thunder

First U.S. troops sent to vietnam
in march of 65 the U.S. sent 3500 soldiers to protect the bases. but many of the south vietnamese did not want the U.S. or their soldiers there. over a few years over 1/2 of a million U.S. troops had been sent to the war -
Tet offinsive
The vietnamese 3ew Year is January 13. in 1968 the N.V. and the vietcong had a suprise attack in every major city in south vietnam. they captured the ancient capital of Hue. But february 25th the attack ended. -

Richard Nixon started to Vietnamization. Vietnamation was a way he used to restore peace and honor in the U.S. for fighing in vietnam. when the troops were sent home they had left the S.V. oper for a invasion from the N.V. -
Kent state incident
the 4th may in 1970 there was an anti-war protest about the attack on camboda at Kent State University in Ohio. Scared soldiers shot 67 shots in a matter of seconds. 2 people were killed and 12 were wounded. -
Watergate scandle
5 men were arrested when they tried to get into the Democratic office to spy for Nixon.Nixon was caught when to men said they were paid hush money to keep it quiet. -
Troops leaving Vietnam
in 1973 the us troops were finally brought home! this was done to make peace in vietnam. when all of the us troops were home they were spat upon and cursed at. and in vietnam the north attacked the south once again.
