    In 1848, people began to think of nationalism. They didn't want to be ruled by a different country, this caused many groups in Italy to form they wanted to rule for themselves. They wanted a change.

    In 1852, Count Camillo di Cavour become prime minister of Sardinia, a kingdom that included both the island of Sardinia and the Piedmont region of northern Italy.

    In 1860,Garibaldi led an invasion of his followers, into the kingdom of Sicily, to join a well known uprising.

    In 1870, Italian forces took over the last part of a territory known as the Papal States. With this victory, the city of Rome came under Italian control.
