Franklin Delano Rooselvelt (far-left), (1/30/1882-4/12/1945), was the only US President to serve four terms in office, died from a cerebral hemmorrage at his home in Georgia. He was succeeded by Harry S. Truman (middle) as president and was later responsible for reforming US foreign policy. -

After the surrender of Germany following WWII, the allied forces including France partioned Germany between themselves as well as the capital city Berlin which was split into fourths. As you can see from the colorful patch located on the Soviet Union portion of Germany. -

The Berlin Blockade and Airlift

Soviet Armed Forces prevented allied reinforcements of food, medical supllies, etc.. by blocking all the rail and highways that wwould otherwise feed the supplies to allied troops. As a response, President Truman sent the needed supply via air drops. Just like the poster shows plans delivering milk to people in Berlin. -
Berlin Blockade and Airlift Ended

After a few months, Stalin relented and lifted the blockade. However, the supply drops did not cease until nearly the end of the year. Pictured, is the last Berlin supply ship to to make the trip and the total tonnage of supply shipped over the course of the blockade can be seen painted on the plane. -
