The journey to cross the Canadian border
During this time chief Joseph was forced to give up land from the american settlers and decided that he wanted justice and if they were gonna take there they can take other land. -
The Journey to the Canadian border
This journey took five months and they picked 500 followers in support and for other tribes -
the Nez Pearce war
when they reached the border they discover that they were surround by US soldiers approximately 250 Nez Perce warriors, and 500 women and children, along with more than 2000 head of horses and other livestock, began a remarkable fighting retreat. they fought four major battles and was not known how many were killed. Chief Joseph would always make sure that women and children didn't fight they were protected. -
The ending
Chief Joseph surrendered on bear paw battlefield with his surrender speech. “it is cold and we have no blankets. The children are freezing to death cried out hear me my chiefs, i am tired. My heart is sick and sad from where the sun now stands. I will fight no more forever.” He just knew that they couldn't win and he did it for the best of his people. which meant the the US won the battle -
the Aftermath
He and other fighters were taken to Kansas and put in prison. they didn't take them home because they wanted them to die from the epidemics there bodies were not immune to. -
the plead
Joseph was offered to meet with President Rutherford B. Hayes and pleaded to send his people back to Wallowa valley,idaho. but he was not allowed to return. -
the people return
they were allowed to return to there home land, but Joseph was moved to Washington. -
The Death of Chief Joseph
He died in Washington state and it was said he died of a "broken heart"
