Breaking Treaties
Russia broke a series of agreements they had with Japan over a joint ownership in Korea and Manchuria. Russia Breaking this treaty with the Japanese. These broken treaties leads to the Japanese to attack the Russians at Port Arthur, Manchuria. With the russians having the reputation of losing a revolt formed with the unhappy people of russia. -
Just Wanting Change
The people of Russia were extremely unhappy with there way of life that they crowded around the czar's palace to protest. They created a petition demanding better working conditions, more freedom, and elected national legislature. Nicholas the second commanded his guards to open fine on the crowds leaving 1,000's wounded and hundreds killed. -
Short Lived
The duma, Russia's first parliament, met in May of 1906. The leaders who were moderates, discussed their ideas of transforming Russia into a constitutional monarchy. not liking the idea of sharing his power, the Zar exterminated of the duma ten weeks later. -
Poor Decisions
Nicholas the second brought the prussians into World War 1. Because of Russia extremely weak and underdeveloped military, they were no watch for the Germans. This event led to the deaths of millions. -
Women Take a Stand
The people of Russia were unhappy with shortages of bread and fuel so the women textile workers in Petrograd led a strike. Hundreds of thousands of workers ran about the streets, making it clear they disagreed with autocracy and war. First, soldiers shot at them, but ended up siding with them. -
Taking Over
Factory workers Armed themselves with weapons, them marched together to the Winter Palace in Petrograd. The Group of marchers banded together and came up with the name "Bolshevik red guards". The marchers defeated the guards and took control of the russian government. -
Humiliated and Angered
Russia losing a huge chunk of their territory, signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with the Germans and Allies. Humiliated, anger roared in the hearts of many Russians objected to the Bolsheviks, policies, and to the murder of the Royal Family -
Chaotic Russia
The Bolsheviks fought against their enemy, the White Army, Which was composed of many groups. Leon Trotsky leaded the Bolshevik Red Army Mations from the west sent military aids to White Army while had very little effect. 14 million died and Russia left in a chaotic state with the Red Army holding the victory. -
New Economics
Lenin converted his idea of a state-controlled economy to a small-scale version of capitalism naming it the New Economic Policy (NEP) this allowed peasants to sell their own crops, yet government still had control of major industries while promoting foreign involvement -
The Stroke That Changed Russia
The Russian country was renamed the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), honoring councils that launched the Bolshevik Revolution. Lenin Received a stroke that he survived but the outcome was a petition for heading up communists party. Stalin became general secretary of the communist party.
