The Texas Revolution Timeline

  • The Battle of Gonzales

The Battle of Gonzales took place on October 2, 1835, outside the town of Gonzales, and the Texan victory started the Texas Revolution. Santa Anna had sent troops to retrieve the cannon given for defence, to which the Texans refused and buried the cannon. Infuriated, Santa Anna sent a much larger force to seize the artillery, which the Texans resisted, resulting in a firefight. Only one person died in the fighting, and eventually, the Mexicans retreated.
  • Siege of Bexar

The Siege of Bexar was a battle that occurred on 10/12/1835 in the town of San Antonio. During the revolution, San Antonio served as the base for the Mexicans, so the Texans came and put it under siege. Because the Mexicans had no hay, they couldn't retreat nor win against the enemy, so they surrendered after brief fighting. Only a force of 100 soldiers was left to garrison the town, and they took up positions in a mission later known as the Alamo.
  • Battle of Concepcion

The Battle of Conception took place near a bend in the San Antonio river on October 28, 1835. Mexican forces came and trapped the Texans at the bend, and started continuously firing at the Texans, who in return aimed at the Mexicans and fought back. The Mexican forces attempted to set up artillery 3 times, and 3 times the men manning the cannons were killed. Eventually, the Mexicans fell back, suffering heavy losses compared to the Texans, with the Texans suffering only 1 death. Out of words.
  • The Battle of the Alamo

The famous Battle of the Alamo took place from February 23, 1836, to March 6, 1836, in San Antonio. 4000 Mexican troops advanced on the 100-man garrison of the mission, who refused to retreat and decided to fight to the end. On the 13th day, the Mexican forces divided into 4 columns and assaulted the Alamo. After a few fierce hours of combat, the Alamo's walls were breached and the Texans who held out in the chapel were killed. The Alamo became a rallying cry for the Texans.
  • Battle of Goliad, Coleto Creek

The Battle of Goliad took place between James Fannin, Texas, and Jose de Urrea, Mexico, in a clearing near Goliad. Fannin had just started his retreat to Victoria and had stopped to graze his oxen in the middle of a wide-open clearing and was quickly surrounded by the Mexican forces. After a brief firefight, the Texans surrendered, and in defiance of the December 30th decree, Jose accepted the surrender. These prisoners were later executed during the Goliad Massacre.
  • The Goliad Massacre

The Goliad Massacre occurred on March 3, 1836. The Texan P.O.W.s who were uninjured were gathered together into columns and marched outside the town. Abruptly, they were told to halt, and the Mexicans, under the orders of Santa Anna, not Jose de Urrea, opened fire, and cavalry chased down and killed any survivors. Back in the town, the injured men were gathered and killed, the bodies gathered, and burnt. Later General Rusk came across the bodies and buried them.
