The Texas Revolution

  • The Battle of Gonzales

    It was on October 2nd, 1835. It was very significant because it was the start of the Texas Revolution. This battle started because Gonzales refused to hand over the cannon to the Mexicans causing a conflict.
  • Siege of Bexar

    It occurred on October 12th, 1835. It was important because the Texans took over San Antonio de Bexar which made Santa Anna furious. The Texans also intercepted a load of grass thinking it was silver. The grass was for the horses of the Mexican army.
  • Battle of the Alamo

    It was on Feb. 23rd, 1836. It was very important because Texas had 189 men, and Mexico had around 4,000 men. All 189 Texan men died. Less than 500 Mexican men died. Despite Mexico winning and the loss of 189 men, this inspired more people to fight for Texas' independence.
  • Travis's letter

    The letter was sent on Feb. 24th, 1836, a day after the Battle of the Alamo started. His letter was a letter asking for reinforcements. He wrote this letter to his fellow citizens and compatriots. It was also a letter saying that he will not give up and that he is going to fight. He ends the letter by saying, "Victory or Death."
  • Runaway Scrape

    It started on March 14th, 1836. Sam Houston(leader of Texans) wanted the people to be running away from the Mexican army, and they should be heading towards the United States. They were running because anyone in the Santa Anna army's way would be killed.
  • Goliad Massacre

    It took place on March 27th, 1836. James Fannin, the Texan leader, had made a deal with Urrea, the Mexican army leader, and the deal was that the prisoners would not be executed. The deal ended up being broken as the massacre was about the prisoners of war from the Texan army being killed.
