The ten hour act of 1847
The ten hour act was made to guarantee that women and children just worked up to ten hours a day in factories. This would now make their maximum calendar ten hours of work every weekday, and Saturdays eight hours, and the day off Sundays. Altogether, this restricted the work time every week to 63 hours. This act was passed by Lord Ashley and John Fielden. This act was not passed on its first endeavor. However, it finally passed in 1847.
