Thanks to Edmond albinism vanilla beans could be grown places outside of Mexico. People began growing vanilla plants wherever the weather was warm enough and soil was right.

Over the years people started using vanilla for more than just ice cream. Bakers added vanilla to cookies. Soda companies added vanilla to cola they discovered it helped upset stomachs.
