Raleigh got mad when he learned that his men left and hired Simon Fernandez to get 100 more people including women and children to make a more permanent settlement in the nearby Chesapeake Bay. -

John White left Roanoke Island to go help with the war between England and Spain -
Coming Back
John White came back 2 years later after Europe defeated Spain, but when he got there nobody was there. He found the word CROATON carved in a tree. Croaton was a nearby tribe. He tried to find the tribe but a hurricane made him go back to England. -
The Origins of Jamestown
John Smith leader of the group landed at the shore of what is now Jamestown. The water was undrinkable, and they were immediately attacked by some of the people, but were determined to stay. -
Pocahontas
Pocahontas was chief Powhatans daughter, and he treated her like a princess. She was known for being playful, bringing fiid, and warning them of ambushes. -
Captain Smith Returns
In 1609 Captain Smith returned from England when he became ill. That was when Pocahantas stopped visiting the village. The relationship between the settlers and the Indians has weakened. -
Death
Four years later John Smith died
