Nine African American teenage boys (scottsboro boys) on a illegally, on a fright train, looking for work, were caught fighting with white boys. In an addition, The argument started off with the boys stepping on a Scotts boro hand. Two woman that were ilegally there clamed that the six young men raped them. The scottsboro boys were charged with rape and assault.

An all-white grand jury indicts the newly-christened "Scottsboro boys" of rape. None of the boys are allowed to contact friends or family, and none are given the opportunity to consult with an attorney. All nine plead "not guilty." In my opinion, this was unfair.

Clarence Norris and Charlie Weems were trialed by Judge A. E. Hawkins and sentanced to death.
On April 7 haywood was also tried and convicted to death
On April 8 Mongomery , Ozie Powell, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Andy Wright were sentanced to death as well.
Also the case against Roy Wright, 13 years old, ends in a jury when 11 jurors seek a death sentence, and one votes for life imprisonment.

Patterson

Found guilty and sentanced 75 years in jail. EVEN THOUGH the woman clamed she was never raped.

While Sheriff Jay Sandlin was transporting Oxie Powell to a Prison, the sherriff was attacked with a gunshot to the head and having brain damage the rest of his life.

The secret

Alabama Attorney General Thomas Knight meets secretly with Samuel Leibowitz. Knight offers to drop the charges against three of the boys and offers the other three a sentence of no more than ten years. Leibowitz doesnt really agree, but the deal doesnt work when Knight dies unexpectedly.

The Scottsboro case was moved into the United States supreme court. although it took twenty years, the last scottsboro boy was freed at last. I coulnt inagine staying in jail for so long for something i didnt do.

July 22-23: The trial of Charley Weems ends in conviction and a sentence of 75 years.
July 23-24: Ozie Powell pleads guilty to assaulting Blalock and is sentenced to 20 years. Rape charges are dropped.
July 24: Rape charges against the last four defendants, Olen Montgomery, Willie Roberson, Eugene Williams, and Roy Wright, are dropped.
