Everthing changes for the Gladers. The safe place is just another Trial. Teresa is taken away. The "cranks" come. Tom and Minho and Newt and the rest discover tattoos on their necks. Teresa is the "betrayer" and then food appears in the commons. The Gladers eat and then a Rat Man comes and explains some to them, saying that all of them have The Flare and that the prize is a cure. He tells them to go through a "Flat Trans" the next morning. Everyone packs then goes to sleep. total: 736 -
The Scorch Trials, Ch. 14-30 pages 73-171
The Gladers go throught he Flat Trans and step into a pitch black tunnel. They walk for a long time but then a giant head-eating silver ball attacks one of them and then another, killing them. They make it to a door but then a ball gets Winston, but Tom saves him. The go into the outside world and walk and walk til they get to a city where they meet and befriend some Cranks that aren't too far gone. They eat food. total: 834 -
The Scorch Trials, Ch. 30-39, pages 172-227
Tom and a Crank named Brenda get separated from the rest of the group. They travel for awhile but soon are attacked by far gone Cranks that want to cut their noses off. Brenda and Tom hide but the lead Crank grabs Tom. Tom and Brenda kill him then go aboveground and sleep in a truck. A sign says "thomas, you are the real leader" and then Brenda and Tom are kidnapped and tied up by some cranks. Minho and the Gladers find and rescue them. total: 890 -

After being rescued, the group sets out for the moutains. Brenda was being all flirty but has stopped after Tom said she would never be Teresa. Tom is shot in the shoulder and gets a bad infection, WICKED swoops in and saves him (something about not supposed to be the way he dies). The group is intercepted by Group B and Teresa is mean. They drag Tom up the moutain. He trys to convince the girls to not kill him. Teresa seems to hate him. total: 940 -

Tom convinces the girls not to kill him-Teresa and Aris capture him and put him in a gas chamber.Tom feels betrayed and hurt. When he wakes, Teresa greets him and explains that if she didn't do all that then WICKED wouldve killed him.Tom finds it hard to forgive.They meet up with Group A and B again and then get to the safe haven.They fight weird monsters.They win and get in the Berg.They sleep and Tom talks to Brenda in his head then wakes in a white room.The trials arent over. total: 1023
