    Was the first to use the term "atom". Knew that atoms were indivisible and indestructible.

    Found oxygen and that air was a mixture of gases.

  • Lavoisier

    Named the elements hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. Found that sulphur was an element. Later found that water was a compound of hydrogen and oxygen.
