Decembrist Revolt
A small group of citizens rebelled against the government in attempt to overthrow the czar. They wanted to create a monarchy. Five leaders were executed and hundreds were sent to Siberia for exile. -

Russo-Japanese War
The war was the first great war of the 20th century. It was the Russian Empire against the Empire of Japan. It was fought over Manchuria and Korea. Japan won because Russia didn't have enough supplies since the war was fought so far away from Moscow. It took Russia a long time to get supplies to where the war was. -
Bloody Sunday
Unarmed demonstrators led by Father Georgy Gapon were fired on by the imperial guard. The people were marching towards the Winter Palace to present a petition to Czar Nicholas ll. -

Russia entered the war with the largest army in the world with 1,400,000soldiers. The army expanded to over 5,000,000 soldiers. Russia fought many different battles in WWl. -
March Revolution
Demonstrators were clamoring for bread so they went along the streets in the Russian capital. Huge crowds of industrial workers joined them and were clashing with police and refused to leave the streets. Then the strike spread to all of the workers. The mobs destroyed police stations. On March 11, troops of the capital were told to put an end to the uprising. In some of the regiments they opened fire on the mobs and killed demonstrators. This caused the imperial government to resign. -
Czar Nicholas ll abdicates the Russian Thrown
Following the February Revolution of 1917, Nicholas ll was forced to abdicate the throne by the Petrograd insurgents. Nicholas and his family were then imprisoned. -
Rusian Civil War Begins
The war was a multi-party war in the former Russian Empire. It took place right after the Russian Revolutions of 1917. The two largest groups were the Red Army and the White Army. -
