     Proclamation of Neutrality
    The Proclamation of Neutrality was a formal announcement issued by U.S. President George Washington in May 1793, declaring the nation neutral in the conflict between France and Great Britain. It threatened legal proceedings against any American providing assistance to any country at war.
  • Convention of 1800

    Convention of 1800
    The convention of 1800 was held between the French and the Americans. Its goal was to put an end to the hostilities that took place during the Quasi War. The Convention of 1800 was handled well by both sides. The Convention successfully repaired relations between France and the US, and opened the doors for future negotiations.

    This was a land deal between the United States and France, in which the U.S. acquired approximately 827,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River for $15 million.

    The Embargo Act was to stop trade between the United States and two warring nations which was France and Great Britain. This did not last long because it started to effect Americas economy and the relationships they had with other nations.

    the United States declared war against Great Britain in reaction to three issues: the British economic blockade of France, the impressment of thousands of neutral American seamen into the British Royal Navy against their will, and the British support of hostile Indian tribes along the Great Lakes frontier.

    This treaty was signed by the British and Americans to end the war of 1812. By terms of the treaty, all conquered territory was to be returned, and commissions were planned to settle the boundary of the United States and Canada.

    President James Monroe used his annual message to Congress for a bold assertion: ‘The American continents … are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers.’ Along with such other statements as George Washington’s Farewell Address and John Hay’s Open Door notes regarding China, this ‘Monroe Doctrine’ became a cornerstone of American foreign policy.
