Dred Scott argued that because he was in a free territory he was a free man. The court and law say that property must be returned to the rightful owner. -

The Election of 1860
Abraham Lincon the electon but southerners don't trust he will keep his promises to abolish slavery. Southern states began to secede from the Union shortly after Lincon is elected because they want slaves.
