  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    It was an act to raise funds to pay off debts and to defend the new territories that were won by the French in the "Seven years' war". Then, the British government passed the the Stamp act. The stamp act was the act of a parliament of Great Britain and imposed a direct tax on the British colonies in America. This caused a huge uproar in America because it was taxation without representation. The colonists then greeted the arrival of stamps with violence.
  • The Townsend Acts

    The Townsend Acts
    The Townsend act were multiple different laws that were passed by the British government towards the American colonies. This happened in 1767. In these laws they places new taxes on some paper, paint,led,glass, and tea. This is one of the reasons that caused the American Revolution because the American fought back by creating a boycott of British goods that were the cause of the taxation. The new taxes obviously did not make the American colonies happy.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a confrontation,where British soldiers fired shots and killed several people while there was a mob of people surrounding them. The reason why the British soldiers shot the American colonists was because they were taunting and throwing things at the British Soldiers. The situation became highly stressful for the soldiers. This massacre became a very useful propaganda tool for the colonist. Paul Revere made a false accusation saying the British were aggressors.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The British put taxes on tea in December which let to the new law which was the "Tea Act". The Americans did not like the new act. "They did not want the British telling them that they had to buy their tea". They also wanted to be able to trade with whatever country that they wanted to. The Sons of Liberty decided to confront the British. They disguised as Mohawks and boarded three ships in the Bostons and destroyed 92,000 pounds of British tea. This really made the British mad.
  • The Coercive Acts

    The Coercive Acts
    This was in response to the Boston Tea Party. In 1774 is when they passed these laws. It closed the Boston Harbor until restitution was pared for the destroyed tea. The colony's elected council was replaced with one appointed by the British. it gave many powers to the British military General Thomas Gage. It caused a major outbreak that became a major push the American Revolutionary War. This happened from March-June 1774.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The British General Thomas Gage led a group of British Soldiers to go to Lexington and capture the colonial leaders, Sam Adams, and John Hancock. Then they would go to Concord and take their gunpowder. The American spies found out this information and spread the word to get ready for the British. At Lexington the British were confronted by 77 American soldiers, and they began to shoot. The Americans know the British colonist were fearsome and this is when Americas War of Independence started.

    The American Revolution hostilities started with the Lexington and Concord. Although, it was unclear if the southern colonies interests were the same as the northern colonies. The southern colonies were independent with the English when it came to buying crops, but they did not trust the Yankees. In New England they thought the southerners were lazy. That was before the British began to burn the coastal towns of Falmouth. People had to grab their things and flee for their life. Part 1...

    British Attacks on Coastal Town Part 2
    The burning of Falmouth surprised president George Washington. He said it was “exceeding in barbarity & cruelty every hostile act practiced among civilized nations.” In Norfolk the wooden buildings were also going into flames after a seven- hour naval bombardment that surprised the Southerners. They knew it was the British were offering the African American their freedom if they went to the loyalist side. The leaders of the rebellion decided they needed to join together to defeat the enemy.
