Sugar Act
This was a law passed by the British Parliament raising duties for foreign refined sugar. This was taxing by the British to help pay for the “Seven Years War.” This then taxed sugar and restricted smuggling. -
Stamp Act
The British Parliament taxed American Colonies. The colonists had to pay taxes for paper, documents, and playing cards. The colonists didn’t like the taxing so it started riots and attacks on tax collectors. -
Declaratory Act
This was Britain’s exclusive right to legislate and tax it’s colonies. The taxes were used for war debt. The French and Indian War was fought in the colonies so the taxes helped for the debt. -
Boston Massacre
In the begging colonists were angry with the taxing. There were British soldiers in their colonies. It was a snowy day so the colonists decided to throw snowballs at the British soldiers. It increased quickly when the colonists started putting rocks in the snowballs. There was a house on fire during the time or throwing the snowballs. There is a conspiracy theory that someone ran out yelling “fire” and so the British soldiers started firing their guns. -
Boston Tea Party
The event was caused by the Tea Act.This was a protest by the Sons of Liberty by dumping all the tea in the harbor. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians to dump the tea. This then resulted in the Intolerable Acts. “No taxation without representation.” -
Intolerable Acts
Intolerable Acts were very harsh laws by the British Parliament.This was created to punish the Massachusetts colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The colonists had to pay for the tea they dumped or the laws would close the port of Boston. -
The Battle of Bunker Hill
This was the first important battle of the American Revolution.The battle was the British and colonial forces. The British defeated the colonial forces. This battle was in Boston, Massachusetts. Since the British one they took over the Peninsula. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The war was fought in Massachusetts. The battle was between British soldiers who wanted to take away the colonists’ weapons. The British soldiers wanted to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams. This battle is considered a major military victory because the British and King George III would not be tolerated in America. -
The Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is defined as the formal statement declaring the freedom of the thirteen American colonies form Great Britain. This meant that Americans were no longer under British rule. This gave people to have Inalienable Rights including Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness. Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston all wrote the Declaration of Independence.
