The Road of Motorcycles

  • The Beginning of the Mororcycle

    The Beginning of the Mororcycle
After the discovery of the bicycle in 1860's France, inventors all around the world started formulating their designs for automated version of this transport device. With the technology they had back then, they could make prototypes that could soon be produced and then later sold. http://www.bicyclehistory.net/motorcycle-history/first-motorcycle/, ( I used this website for the next 2 entrees).

USA and Europe Create the First Automatic Morotcycle

From the 1860's to the 1920's, USA and Europe were the first to grasp the knowledge for the simple automated bicycle called, "Dandy Horse". The simple design enabled its rider to drive it with the power of his or her own feet. Lack of pedals or chain drive limited its use to a small percentage of riders, mostly children and younger men. All that changed in 1861, was that Pierre Michaux painted the color of pedals to black and silver, and called the new addition to the bike "Boneshaker Bike".
  • The Beginning of Steam Powered Motorcycles

The Beginning of Steam Powered Motorcycles
In 1885, two German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach managed to produce first modern model of motorcycle. They managed to attach small petroleum based combustion engine to the wooden bicycle frame. This motorcycle called “Daimler Reitwagen” is today regarded as the first true motorcycle and a starting point for all future motorcycle based innovations and improvements.Their initial plan was to make small automobile, but they opted to test their engine design on a bicycle frame.
  • Downfall of the steam

After the 1800's, companies stopped manufacturing steam powered motorcycles because of many complaints due to saftey and there werent enough people buying the vehicles. This "boycott" from motorcycles ended around the 2nd world war, this is because military needed quick easy access to the vehicles for messages and carrying people in and out of the battle field.
  • The new start

From the end of the World War, companies started manufacturing a whole new type of motorcycle. They didnt just use it for the war, but they also used it for mailmen and the red cross. Till this year (2016) they still make motorcycles for the same reason but now they are open to the public, you can drive them at 18 and up in most states. Even though they still get a lot of complaints on how unsafe the vehicle is, they still remain to be built and to be ridden.
