Noah wants to go off to war and fight for the North -
Event 1
Delphine and Calinda arrive in Grand Tower. -
Event 2
Noah tells Mother that he and his friends practice fighting for the war. -
Event 3
Delphine and Tilly go to the forge to order a great amount of matches, oil, and lamps. -
Event 4
The Pruitt's house is always lit at night because of the lamps that Delphine bought. -
Event 5
The talk of the town is that Calinda is an escaped slave who brought her mistress along with her. -
Event 6
Calinda and Cass begun selling "Tignons" to boats that would pass by on the river. They became very close while doing this. -
Event 7
Noah always hovers around Delphine and takes the chances he can get to help her. -
Event 8
Curry sends Tilly a letter which tells her that he has left for the war and is going to fight for the South. -
Event 9
The woman of Grand Tower tell Mrs. Pruitt that they think that Calinda and Delphine are spies from the South. -
Event 10
Delphine finds out that there is a New Orleans showboat coming to Grand Tower and that it is the last one because the ships are needed for the war. She begs everyone to go and they do go. -
Event 11
While on the showboat, Calinda is called to dance by the memebers of the show and she does a dance called the "Calinda". Delphine tells Tilly that her real name is CoinCoin but everyone calls her Calinda because she is the best at the dance. -
Event 12
Noah asks Delphine to dance the waltz. Dr. Hutchings also asks Tilly to dance. -
Abraham Lincoln's Inaguration
On this date, Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States. His presidency came when the country was on the brink of war with itsself. -
The Climax
Noah leaves for the war at night. Mama says it was like "A thief in the night". He goes to fight for the Union army in Cairo. -
Falling Action 1
Mother tells Tilly that she needs Noah to come back home. She says that she can spare Tilly but not Noah. Delphine and Tilly go on their way to find him and bring him back home. When they get to Cairo, Noah is sick and they nurse him and the other soldiers back to health. -
Falling Action 2
After recovering from "trots", Noah goes to a battle. He returns alive but with an amputated arm. Delphine and Tilly have to help him recover and then they take him home with them. Noah courts Delphine on the way home with his remaining arm. -
Falling Action 3
When they get back to Grand Tower, Cass tells them that Mother jumped in the river because a coffin was sent to the house and she thought it was Noah. It was actually their Father who had been fighting for the Confederate army. -
Resolution Part 1
After the war ended, things did not go back to normal for the Pruitts. Calinda and Delphine are both part African but Calinda is a lot darker than Delphine. They were posing as a master and a slave so that they could travel without being questioned. They had to leave New Orleans because it was too dangerous with the war going on. Their mother was killed when the North invaded New Orleans. -
Resolution Part 2
Calinda moved to California where she could pass as Spanish. Cass died shortly after because of diphtheria. Tilly thinks she no will to live because Calinda had moved and she was so close to her. Delphine and Noah did not get married because it was against Delphine's customs to marry a white man. They also had a child that they named Dr. William Hutchings Jr. They did this so they could pretend that it was Tilly and Dr. Hutchings child. Tilly and Dr. Hutchings never had a child of their own. -

The Attack of Fort Sumter was the battle that started the fighting in the Civil War. The Confederates told the Union to surrender the fort and when they refused the Confederates open fired at the fort. Th e next day, the Union army surrended Fort Sumter -
The Battle Of Bull Run
The Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle of the Civil War. There were almost 850 casualities in the battle. The Confederate army won the battle when the Union army retreated. -
The Battle Of Belmont
The battle took place in Mississippi County, Missouri. The Confederate won the battle and there were about 1250 casualities from both sides. Abraham Lincoln wanted the Union to attack the Southern army and even though they lost, Lincoln was proud of his army.
