Byzantine Empire Created
The Byzantne Empire existed from around 500 to 1450 in Eastern Europe. This Empire had a different political structure from the empire before it Rome. This means that the Byzantine Empire's creation is a change event, because it shows a change in political structure in Europe after the fall of Rome. One major difference is that the bureacracy accepts all social classes (including Hellenized Egyptians and Syrians). It is related to the Political theme because it directly relates to government. -

Byzantine Empire Gets a New Ruler (Justinian)
Justinian was the Emporer of Byzantine from 527-565. This takes place in Eastern Europe. Even though the political structure was similar to normal Byzantine, Justinian was a different ruler, and he made the political structure very similar to Rome's so it is a continuity event. This is true because Justinian was an autocratic ruler similar to the consuls of Rome, but mainly because he united the Empire by systemizing Roman legal codes. This is a political theme because it's related to goverment. -

Russia is Taken by the Mongols
In 1240 in Eastern Europe, Russia was taken by the Mongols, but the Mongols did not get far west into Europe. While the Tatar (Mongol) control was loose on Russia, the changes still caused Russia do be even more different from Rome politically then it once was. Russia's government was now preventing growth of trade and literature, which is different from the Roman government. That makes this a change event. This is a political theme because it relates to changes in two political structures. -

Holy Roman Emporers have Control
Around the 10th century in Western Europe, Holy Roman Emporers had power for a short time. They controlled lands without making a solid monarchy, losing their power. Over time, their rule lost its power, and split into smaller sections. This is a change event, because these empires were very different from the large, powerful empire of Rome. This event is directly related to the political theme because it describes the difference between two governments/political structures. -
Fueual Monarchies Led by French Kings
From the 10th century onward in Western Europe, Kings of France gained authority over regional feudal lords. These feudal monarchies were very different from the Roman political struture; they were based off of a system of land-owners and royalty being in power. This is a change event because this political structure is vastly different from the Roman political structure. The event is under the political theme becaue it involves politcal structures and government. -
Charlemagne's Empire Falls Apart
After Charlemagne's death in 814 in Western Europe, his Empire was split into three parts. These regional monarchies led by poor leaders without single languages or an overarching government made these new monarchies very different from the government of Rome. The differences that the monarchies have with Rome make this a change event, showing that the Roman government's influence is not all-encompassing. This event relates to the theme of politics because it directly relates to government. -
Charlemagne Creates an Empire
In 800 in Western Europe, Charlemegne created a new empire. This empire was similar to the Roman Empire because it had emporers (similar to consuls). The new empire also helped to restore added education, which the Roman Empire had as well. For those reasons, this is a continuity event, because the Empire being established was growing with a political structure similar to Rome's. This event ties to the political theme because it is related to political structures of a new empire. -
The East Central Borderlands are Organized
In Eastern Europe during the centuries around 950 (exact date is unknown), the borderlands of eastern Europe were divided. They were made up of regional monarchies athat were loosely governed along with a large land-owning aristocracy. The lack of a strong government makes this politcal structure different from the Roman political structure, so this is a change event. This event is politically themed because it relates to the political structure of a region compared to Roman political structure.
