  • Mussolini "War Hero"

    In 1915, Mussolini got injured during a military training by grenade. He later uses it to promote himself as a war hero.

  • National Fascist Party

    The Fascist Party was growing under Mussolinis rule, giving him more power as time went by, his party was winning more elections and was gaining more seats in government.

  • Paris Peace Conference

    Italian dissatisfaction with the territorial settlement made at the Paris Peace Conference. Most of the Italians had expected big territorial gains when they entered the war, but didn't get Fiume. This angered the people against the liberal government and helped pave the way to the rise of Mussolini.

  • Fascist tension in Rome

    There was the threat posed by the bands of fascist troops now gathering outside Rome. Rumours has spread that there was thousands of fascist people willing to fight for Mussolini. This made the king nervous and appointed Mussolini prime minister.

  • March on Rome

    After Mussolini became prime minister, he organized a triumphant parade for his followers to show the fascist party’s support for his rule. This was known as the March on Rome.

    Giacomo Matteotti was an Italian Socialist politician and was an opponent of Mussolini, He denounced Fascist violence and kept trying to do so unto his death. He was kidnapped and killed by the secret police of Mussolini.
