Albany Plan
Benjamin Franklin submitted the Albany Plan in order to gather delegates in Albany, New York. This was accepted by the delgates but rejected by the colonies due to a fear of losing power. -
Seven Years War (French and Indian War)
British with its allies, its colonies and Native Americans, declared war on the French who were allied by Native Americans due to a struggle for worldwide control of colonial markets and raw materials. -
Treaty of Paris
Ended the Seven Years War granting the British control of Canada, Florida and land east of the Mississippi River while the French were driven out of the North American mainland. -
Proclamation of 1763
Issued by King George III following the conclusion of the Seven Years War. Colonists were not allowed to settle past the Appalachian Mountains in order to avoid any issues with Native Americans already in the area. -
Sugar Act
Tax on sugar, coffee, tea, wine and other imports. Enacted in order to raise revenue for the remaining British soldiers. -
Stamp Act
Placed a tax on printed documents such as newspapers. -
Quartering Act
Colonists had to supply the British Troops with housing. -
Stamp Act Congress
Created in an attempt to unite the colonies together against the Stamp Act. Only 9 colonies attened with Virginia, Georgia, New Hampshire and North Carolina being electing to not attend. Ended up leading to the Declaratory Act. -
Repeal of the Stamp Act
Parliament repealed the Stamp Act due to boycotts and the Stamp Act Congress voicing their anger. -
Declaratory Act
Parliament declares sovereignty over the colonists no matter the case. -
Townshend Acts
Placed taxes on glass, paper and tea. -
Boston Massacre
Confrontation between the colonists and the British troops which led to the deaths of 5 colonists. Paul Revere later turns the incident as propaganda against the British, -
Tea Act
East India Company granted the right to sell tea directly to Americans. -
Boston Tea Party
Led by the Sons of Liberty, colonists diguised as Mohawk Indians threw tea into the Boston Harbor in response to the Tea Act. -
Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
As a response to the Boston Tea Party Parliament closed to port of Boston and restricted town meetings. -
First Continental Congress
Delegates from each colony except for Georgia met in Philadelphia as a response to the Coercive Acts. Resulted in the colonies boycotting British goods afterwards. -

First battle of the American Revolution, fought by the Massachusetts Miltia. -
Second Continental Congess
Held in Philadelphia with all 13 colonies attending. Appointed George Washington as commanding general of the Continental Army. -

Inspired colonists to revolt against the British. -
Declaration of Independence
Written by Thomas Jefferson; colonists declared its independence from Great Britain. Stated grievances against King George III. -
Articles of Confederationj
First form of government in America. States had more power than the Central Government. Failed due to this. -
Treaty of Paris
Marks the end to the American Revolution. Removes the British from the United States of America.
