The Renaissance brought a great cultural change throughout Europe which transformed people's lives. Trade increased, demmand for agricultural goods increased, and food prices decreased which allowed people to spend their money on other things as well. The Renaissance allowed free thinking that spread to other parts of the world.

    Humanism
    Humanism which comes from the Latin word Humanitas was a movement inspired by scholars. Rhetoric, poetry, history, grammar, Latin, and Greek were the subjects known as humanities. Humanists began to think individually and more like classical thinkers. Humanists provided a more rounded education. It became very popular during the Renaissance.

    Growth of Italian city-states
    Italy was divided into several states that are still there today. The nothern city-states of Venice, Milan, and Florence became powerful centres of commerce. Artisans practiced various crafts like goldsmithing. Their knowledge about the different arts expanded. Venice was popular for trade, Milan for agriculture, and Florence was popular for good banking and production and cloth.

    Writing/Writers during the Renaissance
    Most of the writing that took place during the Renaissance reflected the changes that were going on during that time. One of the greatest writers of all time was William Shakespeare. Shakespeare wrote many plays that spread the ideas of the Renaissance. Many of the philosophers and writers showed a lot of interest in this period which we can see from their works. Their ideas spread to other countries and influenced people greatly.

    The Arts
    Famous artists like Lorenzo de Medici, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo created paintings based on what they observed in nature. Though, many artists chose to paint religious subjects, there are some who painted and sculpted new ideas like Greek and Roman myths. Art during the Renaissance focused on joy in human beauty. Oil paint was also discovered at this time. Artists during the Renaissance had different styles but their paintings showed great emotion.

    Spread of Ideas
    Renaissance ideas were exchanged and spread in many ways. Some Italian artists who fled to Northern Europe took their painting techniques and ideas with them. Trade was also a big part because people were constantly coming in contact with one another which led to lots of ideas being shared amongst each other. Scholars who travelled around adopted ideas from other places. Renaissance ideas spread throughout the world.

    A lot of goods were exchanged with people from different countries. Trade increased which led to a new kind of economy. The use of coins started and people began using coins to buy goods. The use of coins was important because it provided jobs for many people; job opportunities like banking and merchants were available. These people could change money from currency to currency and produce goods. Trade made cities flourish.

    Religion (Spread of Protestantism)
    Martin Luther began the spread of Protestantism. He stood against the Roman Catholic Church and ever since then Europe was split into two - Catholicism and the new Protestantism. Martin Luther challenged the Catholic Church. He had many supporters who began protesting when they heard about his exocommunication. After Martin Luther, many other reformers adapted his ideas and fit them into what they believed.

    -Government began to tax people.
    -Italians wanted self rule.
    -There was a balance of powers.
    These brought a lot of peace throughout Europe.

    Science began to question the church's teachings. Science and art were closely related. Artists studied the human body so that they were able to make paintings and sculptures about the body. Many of the scientists arose towards the end of the Renaissance which was the Scientific Revolution. These scientists made great discoveries that have impacted our lives and are still used tody.
