The Red Badge of Courage

  • Base Camp

    Henry and the other soldiers are waiting for orders to move into battle. They have yet to go into battle.
  • First Taste of Battle

    Henry is woke up by Jim and the regiment begins to move. They end up on the front line with the enemy approaching. Henry contemplates on if he should run or stay and fight.
  • Henry Gains Confidence

    The captain shouts orders at the regiment to fire at the enemy. Henry fires repeatedly. The Lieutenant beats a soldier that tries to flee. The captain is shot. The enemy retreats. Henry is proud of how brave he was and how much courage he showed. The enemy regroups and begins to charge again. Many of the men flee and run to the woods for shelter. Henry decides it would be best for him to run also.
  • The Tattered Man

    Henry continues into the woods after overhearing that his regiment won the battle without him. He stumbles upon men walking down a road and joins them. He meets a tattered man who he tries to get away from because the man brags about how much courage and bravery the soldiers had to win the battle.
  • Jim Conklin

    When Henry leaves the tattered man he finds Jim. They were good friends. Jim was shot in the battle and was having a hard time walking. Henry takes Jim off the road to the field because Jim was scared to get run over by the wagons. Jim begins to run off so Henry and the tattered man follow. Jim falls in some bushes and ends up dying.
  • Henry Finds His Regiment

    After being hit in the head with the gun he has a wound and is helped my a man he never met before. The man showed Henry the way back to his regiment. Wilson, standing guard, recognized Henry and tended to his wounds. Henry lied about his wound saying it was a gun shot.
  • Woods Battle

    The regiment went into the woods after they saw enemy soldiers. They wait there to fight. The enemy came quickly, Henry fires so rapidly he doesn't even realize he is shooting at nothing. The regiment notices how brave Henry was.
  • Overheard Conversation

    Henry and Wilson go to get water, they over hear a general, officer, and commanders talk about how they need a regiment to fight. It would need to be a regiment they don't necessarily need. The officer insults Henry's regiment and leaves the conversation to relay the message to the regiment. Henry and Wilson arrive before the message from the officer does. The regiment does not believe them until the officer confirms it.
  • The Flag

    The men move forward into the rain of bullets. The enemy fight back with much rage and force. Henry watches the flag bearer and follows him until the flag bearer was shot. Henry and Wilson rush to pull the flag from the dead body. They argue over who will carry the flag while walking into the woods for cover.
  • The Losing Battle

    Henry and Wilson walk back to the battlefield, surrounded by enemy soldiers. They motivate the regiment and lead them across the battlefield. As the men push back the rivals, Henry and Wilson notice the enemy's flag bearer has been wounded, they follow him and Wilson takes the enemy's flag.
  • Reflection

    After the battle, the regiment walked down toward the river. Henry reflects on how far he has come. He wanted to be a war hero but at first he was scared he would die in battle. over time he gained confidence and showed his bravery.
