The Root Beer Float

  • The Menu

I was at the Mall with my Friends and we decided to go to Red Robin. I had never been there before so I said yes. We sit down at our table and I look through the whole menu.
  • What I Want

I'm a very very picky eater so I just want mac'n cheese. The meal comes with a side salad. I don't like salad. When I ordered I just asked for fries instead, because why not.
  • The Root Beer Float

After we order I was just looking around the restaurant taking it all in and I see someone with a root beer float. Let me tell you it looked so yummy. I instantly wanted one.
  • Short Term Effect

I knew I had already order mac'n cheese and fries so if I got a root beer float too the short term effect would be my stomach would hurt and its not healthy for me. Even though it would make me temporarily happy, I didn't want to get a stomach ache. So instead of making an "immediate problem"( Making Healthy Choices pg.8) I made the decision that I shouldn't get one.
  • The Long Term Effect

I knew I had already ordered mac'n cheese and fries so if I got a root beer float too the long term effect would be I would be out $5 and that is not good for my health to take in that many calories. Even though my " brain will trip me up" I had to "be pre- pared to work around it" (Making Healthy Choices pg.8).
  • My Decision

I chose not to get the Root Beer Float when I started think about the short term and long term effects. "We must recognize that our brains will look for the short-term gain and will not easily “see” the long term risk" (Making Healthy Choices pg.8 &9).
