    After Greece defeated Persia at the Battle at Salamis, Greece's army attacked Persia in the final Battle at Plataea. Persia's army was defeated, and The Persian War ends.
  • The Battle at Marathon

    The Persian War began when The Persian Empire attacked a Greek-speaking city-state at Asia Minor, and Athens came to help. After, Darius the Great, leader of the Persians, targeted and attacked Athens. The Battle at Marathon was a very decisive battle. If the Athenians lost, Greece would have been conquered by the Persians.
  • The Battle at Salamis

    After the loss at Thermoplylae, the Greeks fled to Salamis. There, they fought and won a decisive battle against Persia. After Xerxes was defeated, his cousin Mardonius was left in control. Greece was ready for the final attack.

    After the Battle at Marathon, the Persians did not attack for 10 years. But when Darius' son, Xerxes, took control, he attacked Greece again. He told the Greek city-states to submit to him without violence, and most did. But Athens and Sparta fought back. One brilliant Athenian man, named Themistocles, predicted that the Persians would attack again, and built an army and navy. The Athenians and Spartans were ready. 300 Spartans, lead by King Leonidas, fought and lost to the Persians.

    The effects of the Persian war were great. First, a new method of fighting was made, called a Greek phalanx. It was made entirely of heavily armored infantry. Another was the Delian League. It was supposed to be for the protection of Greece, lead by Athens, but it ended up with Athens abusing their power. The last effect was the success of Greek culture. if the Greeks failed, their history, even Europe's history, would be completely different!
