Iraq Invades Kuwait
At anout 2 a.m. 80,000 Iraqi troops invaded and occupied Kuwait. This event was one of the most major international crisis of post- Cold War era. -
Bush Declared, "This Aggression Will Not Stand"
The Bush administration sent 180,00 troops to go protect the Suadi Kingdom. Bush also organized aqn international coalition against Iraq. His decision to not act upon agression showed the president's assesment of vital national interests. -
Clinton Defeated Bush
Bill Clinton defeated George Bush and Ross Perot to become the first Democratic president in 12 years. Bush received 38% of the vote, Clinton recieved 43% of the vote and Perot recieved 19%. -
Approved Four Articles of Impeachment
The House Judicary Committee, voting along strait party lines, approved four articles of impeachment. Those articles said that Clinton had committed perjury, obstructed justice and abusedpower. This made Clinton only the second president to face an impeachment trial in the senate. -

By this time period the sense of American pre-eminence had faded. American economic competitiveness had eclined.
