This Iron Age dynasty, sometimes called the Achaemenid Empire, was a global hub of culture, religion, science, art and technology for more than 200 years before it fell to the invading armies of Alexander the Great. -

Battle of Maraothon
The Battle of Marathon took place in September 490 BC on the big plain of Marathon. It was fought between the Athenians and the Persians. The battle was the end of the first attempt by Persia, under King Darius I, to conquer Greece. It was part of the first Greco-Persian war. -

The Battle of Salamis was a naval battle fought between an alliance of Greek city-states under Themistocles and the Persian Empire under King Xerxes in 480 BC which resulted in a decisive victory for the outnumbered Greeks. -

The Battle of Thermopylae: Spartans v. Persians. The battle of Thermopylae was the first between the Persians and Greeks during the Persian invasion of 480-479 BC. The Greek force was very small but was determined to make a stand against the huge Persian army. -

Macedonian Invasion
King Phillip ll, invaded many of the Geek city-states and made Macedonian the middle of his Empire. He decided if he could counquer all of Greace, he'd have the coastline for a trade, a rich culture great soldiers wedding, he was killed by a guard. Nobody was prepared to take over but luckily he trained his son well under Alexander his son was ready to take over. -

Fall of the Persian Empire
Darius loses three battles with Alexander and is finally defeated in 331. He is murdered in 330 B.C. The great Persian Empire is no more. The Persian Empire began with conquest and ended with defeat, but it will always be remembered as a powerful force that swept through the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe.
