  • Motorola BPR2000

    Motorola BPR2000
In 1982, Motorola Inc released the numerical pager known as the BPR2000. It was the first microprocessor based pager and most of the software was written by Bob Monsour.
The official name, "BPR2000" is what eventually led to the device being dubbed as "The Beeper".
Since these paging devices were strictly numerical, users had to get creative. Want to tell your sweetie you love them? Type in a specific return number which they can read as text by turning their device upside down!
  • DynaTAC 8000X

    DynaTAC 8000X
The first consumer cell phone was released to the public by Motorola. It was quite costly but had a low battery life. However, it enabled people to contact each other on the go (though maybe not through tunnels).
  • Microsoft Windows

    Microsoft Windows
This year, Microsoft launched their first operating system and while not immediately popular, it is now one of the most widely used operating systems out there.
  • Nintendo

    Nintendo
Also released this year (in North America) was the popular gaming console, Nintendo Entertainment System. Released by Famicom, this system changed the after school routine of many a child!
  • The Web

    The Web
The first internet browser, The World Wide Web was created by Tim Berners-Lee. For the first time, information was linked together over a public network, effectively creating the world we know today.
