    Ponyboy was bullyed by Socs
    When Ponyboy was on the way home, the Socs pulled him over to threaten and teased him who is one of the greasers. Darry, Sodapop and other greaser rescue Ponyboy in time. This incident is the beginning of story. Readers realize main characters’ personalities and backgrounds in some ways, as well as, Ponyboy’s attitude to each person. In addition, this chapter shows the hostile relationship between Socs and Greasers, and this incident foreshadows the following fights of the story.
  • The first meet with Cherry

    The first meet with Cherry
    Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny met Cherry at cinema. Cherry was a girl from affluent family for her dressing. Dally thought Cherry was cute, but Cherry felt Dally was like trash. Cherry and her friends were accosted by dally. Cherry was getting mad, or scared. Johnny helped these girls. Ponyboy and Johnny chatted with girls. In addition, Cherry thought Dally is attracting. In this chapter, the advent of cherry is main reason for causing the conflict between Bob and Johnny.
  • Greasers sent girls to home

    Greasers sent girls to home
    After movie was over, the Greasers sent girls to home. The conversation between Ponyboy and Cherry showed the different ideas about the gap between Socs and Greasers. Ponyboy thought money was the reason. However, Cherry thought the gap is not just money. They have a common point, both of them used to watch sunsets. Ponyboy started think their lives are not so different. Suddenly, Bob and Randy (Girl’s boyfriends) came across the group of people. Bob and Randy feel resentful.
  • Darry quarreled with Ponyboy

    Darry quarreled with Ponyboy
    Darry quarreled with Ponyboy because he went back home late. Darry wheeled around and slapped Ponybay so hard. Everyone was totally stunned, Darry wanted to say sorry, but Ponyboy was running away from home. The part is the reason why Ponyboy went to find Johnny at midnight (which leads to the fight with Bob).
  • Johnny killed Bob

    Johnny killed Bob
    Ponyboy and Johnny went to the center with a fountain. They encounter the Socs (involve Bob and Randy). Bob was extremely angry since Ponyboy and Johnny picked up his girlfriend. The Socs caught Ponyboy’s arm and put Ponyboy’s head into the water. In the meantime, Johnny stabbed Bob with his blade. Johnny became a murderer and they asked Darry for help. (This is the beginning of the escaped journey.)

    Ponyboy went to find Johnny. He was mad at Darry. Ponyboy thought Darry don’t like him and hate him. Johnny didn’t think so. He thought Darry cares about Ponyboy. Johnny’s old man knew who he is when he was hitting Johnny. Johnny walks in that house, and nobody says anything. Johnny stayed away all night, and nobody notices. (Johnny’s sentences show he fell lonely most time, as well as, he was admire Ponyboy.)

    Ponyboy's hair was cut by Johnny
    Ponyboy and Johnny hide in a church. During their stay, Johnny cut and dyed Ponyboy’s hair as a disguise. Ponyboy was so sad. He thought he loses the identity of Greasers. We can see that Ponyboy put a high premium on Greasers.

    Ponnyboy read Gone with the Wind to Johnny, Johnny appreciated the south gentleman every much. The boys were watching the sunrise. They hoped to remember the sight forever, but nothing gold can stay all the time. Ponyboy also recited the poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. The poem plays an important role on their future. Happy time cannot be permanent.
  • The letter from Sodapop

    The letter from Sodapop
    Dally went to the church and visited Ponnyboy and Johnny, they were surprised. They had not met any friend after they hid in the church. Sodapop sent a letter to Ponyboy; he mentioned that Darry was worried about him. Sodapop felt that Ponyboy should turn himself in. This part shows the love of brothers, Darry really love Ponyboy.
  • Rescuing children in the church

    Rescuing children in the church
    When Ponyboy and Johnny back to church, they saw the Church was on fire and some kids trapped in the church. Johnny had no hesitation in rushing to the fired Church to rescue the kids. He thought it is his fault. Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally were sent to hospital in the end. This accident shows that Greasers are also can give a helping hand to others, not only Socs. The conflagration leads to death of Johnny, the death of Johnny influence the death of Dally.
  • Clearing the air ( Ponyboy and Darry)

    Clearing the air ( Ponyboy and Darry)
    Ponyboy reunited with Darry and Sodapop. Darry hugged his younger brothers tightly with tears. Their misunderstanding had gone. Ponyboy finally realized Darry loved and cared about him. This part shows that harmony was restored again. Ponyboy realized that Darry was strict to him just because he wanted to set Ponyboy to rights.
  • News about Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally

    News about Johnny, Ponyboy and Dally
    Johnny was prosecuted by Bob’s family. Yet, Johnny and Ponyboy were regarded as hero because of rescuing the kid. The situation might be changed. Some citizens thought Darry was not a good guardian since Ponyboy was involved in the case. Sodapop and Ponyboy should be sent to boy’s home. Ponyboy didn’t want to be separated. Ponyboy wanted to fight for his gang and solve the problem between Socs and Greasers (one of the main idea of the novel).
  • Ponyboy visited Johnny

    Ponyboy visited Johnny
    Ponyboy visited Johnny. Johnny told that he don't want to die because he haven't travel to other places, countries. He wanted to get realization about the whole world. This part is crucial because Johnny change his view of life because of these experiences.
  • Converstion with Randy

    Converstion with Randy
    Randy was amazed because of rescuing. He changed his mind to Greasers. Also, he objected the fight that night. He called Ponyboy “kid”. Ponyboy forgive Randy in some ways. This part shows that the hatred of Greasers and Socs can be diminished without fight. Fight is not a good way to solve the problem.
  • The rumble

    Socs and Greasers had a rumble. By the way, they won the rumble. Although Ponyboy did not like to fight with others, he thought he ought to fight for his gang and Johnny. From the thing, we can see that Pony-boy care about his gang very much. He was willing to do everything for his friends. Ponyboy putted a great stock in goodwill.
  • Johnney died

    Johnney died
    Johnny was going to die, he told Ponyboy that keep the gold. This part is important because of Johnny’s opinion about Socs and Greasers. Fight cannot solve any problem. Fight will eliminate Ponyboy’s virtues. Dally felt remorse because if Johnny can be tough and smart like him, maybe he won't get hurt.
  • Dally died

    Dally died
    Dally was desperate after Johnny died. He robbed a grocery store and cops were going to arrested him. Greasers wanted to rescue Dally. Yet, Dally was shot by policemen since dally brought a gun. They didn’t aware that it is not a loaded gun. It is tragedy. Ponyboy was affected by the dead of Johnny and Dally. From this part, we can see that Dally value Johnny.
  • The hearing

    The hearing
    In the hearing, Cherry helped Ponyboy to explain the whole thing. After consulting, the judge proclaimed that Ponyboy was acquitted. The court decision indicates Ponyboy can live with his brothers. This part is important because the case was ending.

    The letter from Johnny and Ponyboy had an idea about his final project
    Ponyboy read the letter which wrote by Johnny, although Dally couldn’t read it anymore. This letter showed his hope to Ponyboy, Dally, and the gang. Johnny hoped Ponyboy to stay his gold. He thought fight is not a good way to solve problems. Ponyboy had an idea about his final work, he decided to write his experience (these days) as the final project to commemorate his friends and alarm individuals the adverse impact of fight on people’s lives. His idea related to the theme of the book.
