From about 900 BC, their capital city moved to La Venta. The city was situated on an island in the Tonala river. -

San Lorenzo was abandoned which was a major Olmec city in 900 B.C and was around since 1500 B.C. San Lorenzo was known for having the best and biggest sculptured heads the tallest head was nearly ten feet tall. -

Around 400 B.C. the Olmec city of La Venta went into decline which took the Olmec with it. -
