  • Odysseus wakes up in Ithaca

    Odysseus wakes up in Ithaca
    -where? Ithaca
    -who? Odysseus
    -what happened? Odysseus falls into a deep sleep and the sailors drop him off at Ithaca. When he wakes up he is confused and doesn't know where he is
    "But these men carried him, while still asleep, / over the sea in their swift ship, set him / in Ithaca, and gave him countless gifts" (Book 13, lines 159-161)

  • Poseidon turned the ship into stone

    Poseidon turned the ship into stone
    -where? Scheria
    -who? Poseidon and the Phaeacians
    -what happened? Poseidon turned the Phaeacians ship into stone so they couldn't escort people anymore
    "There he waited. As their sea-faring ship approached / moving quickly on her course, Earthshaker came up / and turned it into stone. With the palm of his hand / he hit it once and from below froze it in place" (Book 13, lines 195-198)

  • The suitors try to pursue his wife Penelope

    The suitors try to pursue his wife Penelope

    -who? Suitors, Penelope, Athena and Odysseus
    -what happened? Odysseus wakes up and Athena tells him where he is and how he got there. She then tells him that the suitors have tried to woo his wife while he has been gone
    "these shameless suitors, who for three years now / have been lording it inside your palace / wooing your godlike wife and offering her / their marriage gifts. she longs for your return" (Book 13, lines 462-465)

  • Eumaeus doesn't recognize Odysseus

    Eumaeus doesn't recognize Odysseus

    -what happened? Eumaeus prepares a meal for Odysseus but doesn't know it's him because he is in disguise. Eumaeus talks about his absent master not knowing he is right in front of him
    "But I don’t think it’s all just as you said, / and what you mentioned of Odysseus / does not convince me. Given who you are, / why must you tell such pointless falsehoods?" (Book 14, lines 470-473)

  • Groundosaur steals Odysseus treasure

    Groundosaur steals Odysseus treasure

    -what happened? When Odysseus was still asleep the Groundosaur came up from underground and swallowed all of his treasure
