This declared the Tariffs of 1828 and 1832 null and void between the boarders of the U.S. state of South Carolina. -

This was an attempt to address Southern grievances over the high protective duties imposed by the Tariff of 1828. -
Jackson Proclamation Against Nullifications
President Jackson prepared troops to South Carolina to collect the revenue but never went. He instead urged Congress to pass a bill that would allow him to use military force to ensure tariffs. -
South Carolina’s Repeal
South Carolina was still angry about the nullification ordinance being dismissed so they decided to repeal the nullification of the tariffs that were placed to protect Northern industries to try to have power to nullify those tariffs. -
Compromise Tariff
This provided for the gradual reduction of duties to the revenue level of 20 percent. The states demanded the backing down of the nullification, and the avoidance of a large-scale conflict.
