Economy Bill
Congress passes the Economy Bill cutting government spending by $500 million in scheduled payments to veterans and federal employees. It was important because it cut down some spending to concentrate on the economic depression. (recover) -
Federal Emergency Relief Act
Passed by Congress which distributed millions of dollars to the states to disperse to one-fourth of the national workforce that was unemployeed. It is important because it provided relief for the poorer class in depression. -
The Agricultural Adjustment Act
Paid farmers to farm less land in effort to reduce overproduction, failed to get to sharecroppers. It is important because it lowered production rate and temporarily slowed the depression. (reform) -
Tennessee Valley Authority Act
Created the Tennessee Valley Authority to build dams and provide cheap public power and irrigation while promoting economic development in the Tennessee River Valley. It is important because it provided work for the unemployed. (relief) -
Glass-Stegall Act
Established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation which separated commercial and investment banking. It is imprtant because it was a way to reform the way banks worked and helped put trust back into banks. -
National Industry Recovery Act
Attempted to stop overproduction of goods and created the National Recovery Administration which encouraged high wages and low work hours. It is important because it helped families from going poor and homeless. (relief) -
Securities and Securities Exchange Act
To establish regulation on New York's stock exchange. It is important because it stopped the market from crashing and useless spending. (reform)
