    The Iconoclastic Controversy took place because a Byzantine Emporere decided that Jesus' face should be taken down from a famous gate. From that point on no one worshiped the face of Jesus until 787 CE when another Emperor thought it would be okay. The images had to be regular with nothing standing out.

In 1095 he had a meeting called the Council of Clairmont that discussed the need to retake the Holy cities. They succeeded, but Muslims eventually got it back in later years.
