    Around the 400’s (BC) solar calendars were carved into stone. The maya calendar is a system of 3 different calendars. The system was used in many different cultures, but most famously in the maya civilization. (AD means Anno Domini which is used to label numbers and BC means before christ. Both these labels were used in Julian and Gregorian calendars.)

    300’s (BC) was when the social structure in maya adapted to Nobles and Kings as rulers. The maya social structure was slaves, serfs, commoners, and nobles. These things served and were passed on through elite family lineages(wealthy families).

    Tikal
    Around the 450’s (AD), Tikal was the capital of a conquest state, that became one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient maya. The city dominated much of the maya region politically, economically, and militarily. Most lately, Tikal is in the ruins of an ancient city found in a rainforest in Guatemala.

    On August 28, 638 (AD), Pakal the great died. He got burned in the Temple Of Inscriptions. He had 2 children and was buried in Palenque, Mexico.

    Discovery Of Mayan Writing
    The 700’s (BC) was a big time for mayans because it’s when Mayan writing was discovered in Mesoamerica. A simple number like1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 11 were a simple dot(shown in picture), but when a 5 like 5, 10, 15, 25, 30 would come a line would be added on(look at picture). Every 20 was a symbol(as seen in picture).

    Around the 800’s (BC) is when villages started to form. Once more and more villages appeared, trading began throughout the Maya region. They traded goods like salt, cotton, flint, jade, honey, and even feathers. Jade was used in art, jewelry, and even to fill their teeth.

    Abandon Sites
    Sometime in the late 800’s (AD), sites in the rainforest and tropical lowlands became abandon. These sites are known as the Mayan Ruins. Chichen Itza was a temple of the warriors and was very important to the mayan.

    The first hunters gathered around the 1100’s (BC). They settled along the pacific coast and then expanded to the central highlands. They ate mainly what they killed, (fish, deer, etc.)

    Some mayan are still living in central america, but their cities lie abandon. Plagues, war, or drought might have caused the maya to leave. Deforestation. It is still a mystery that many still are figuring out.
