    Around 1800 B.C. the Maya started with growing symple farms, and started to have settlements. This was considered the Formative Period. They would have grown corn, beans, squash and cassava.

    The early Maya would have been from 1800 B.C. to 250 A.D. This would be considered the point where the Maya were just starting and having simple farms. Closer to the end of the time period the Mya would have massive farms stretching in the high land and the lowlands.

    The Creation of Rubber
    Around 1150 B.C. it was believed that the Maya were creating and using rubber. We did not discover rubber till 1843, this just proves how advanced the maya were for the time period they excited in. They discovered this by accident by combining the rubber tree and the morning-glory plant. They then used this for waterproof clothing, glue, bindings for books, figurines and the large rubber balls used in the ritual game called pokatok.

    Somewhere around 700 B.C. they created a form of writing. This would have been like our ABCs, except in an ancient native style. This would have been a huge accomplishment for them.

    100 B.C. was when the great city of Teotihuacan was built. That city was built on a swamp. Now Mexico City is located there and it still sinks about an inch a year because it is built on a swamp.

    Then at 250 A.D. the people started to come together and build their massive temples. These were no little houses these were much bigger than the egyptian pyramids, these were also built by hand rather than the egyptian way of building the using animals. Plus these were used as religious reasons rather than a grave.

    The Classic Maya period was when they had the peak of their rule. This is also known as Cities of stone period, because this is also when they bult their great temples and cities out of stone. During this period the also created and thought of a lot of advanced ideas and tools.

    Around 500 A.D. they created the chocolate drink. Though they only found a small amount of cocoa beans. Plus they did not have sugar, so they added spicy peppers or other ingredients in with it so give it more flavor.

    Around 900 A.D. the Mayan people vanished, no one knows what happened. Disease, war, drought could of all be possible for the reason the the Mayan people went from 2,000,000 to 1,000. Most likely disease because that is what killed many native people. They never built an immunity to european diseases.

    Around 1695 A.D. the ruins of Tikal are discovered by a Spanish priest who is still lost in the jungle. That’s one thousand years after the settlement was made. That little settlement was then turned into the great city of Tikal then is was abandoned because of war.

    Up to this day we are still searching for the ancient mayan temples and cities lost in the deep jungle. The Mayan people and culture still lives in latin america, up to this day. The people are just not the same great empire they once were.
